However I have been doing a little writing lately and my creative juices are flowing. The Basement posts made me a bit giddy. The Hervey and Clemmy characters are based on real people...which falls within Hemingway's basic approach to his literature: a good writer always knows FAR more about characters than he lets the reader in on. By using this method, the writer creates an "otherness" which the reader can only wonder about. Old Man and the Sea could have been over 1000 pages according to Hemingway because he knew every person intricately in that fishing village, but most weren't even mentioned once.
I have recently had a few breakthroughs with regard to my storyline of the book I will write one day. Also, I am reading Moby Dick for the first time and Melville's frequent dips into the unconscious and the way he describes and explains situations makes time slow down. I feel like my time is slowing down too perhaps, and when that happens, pockets of time open up.....thus the Basement posts.
